Condition and identification are central to collecting. The same design can appear on pieces with very different dates, surfaces and certification status. This guide explains how to read our listings and assess the details of the item you receive.
Start with the individual listing
Check the issue or series, mint or issuing authority, denomination, composition, condition and included packaging. The legal face value is separate from the selling price. A random-year listing offers the specified type within its stated range; it does not promise a particular year, mint mark or variety.
Certified coins and holders
A product expressly identified as PCGS-graded includes the specified coin in a PCGS holder. The numerical grade is the grading service’s assessment, not a promise of perfect surfaces. MS means Mint State; grades in this category run from 60 to 70. Read any designation or qualifier as part of the full description.
Check the certification number on the delivered holder using the grading service’s official verification tool, and compare the returned date, denomination and grade with the label. A database match is a useful check, but does not by itself authenticate the physical holder or coin. Contact us if details do not match.
Ungraded coins and paper currency
BU, VG and VF are condition descriptions. They do not imply professional certification. An uncirculated coin may have contact marks; circulated coins and notes show wear. Coins and banknotes have different grading considerations, so the same abbreviation should be interpreted in the context of the item.
Paper silver certificates contain no silver metal. For notes, the Friedberg number identifies the cataloged issue and signature combination. Read the series, denomination and signature information alongside that number.
Representative photographs
Unless the listing states that an exact specimen is offered, images illustrate the product type and stated condition. Serial numbers, holder numbers, toning and individual surface details can vary. Promotional collection banners are illustrative; the product listing governs what is included.
Preserving your collection
Handle coins by the edges and keep certified holders intact. Store paper currency in suitable archival sleeves. Avoid cleaning, polishing, ironing or pressing collectible items. Photograph the item and its packaging on arrival if you have a question.
